How soon will I receive my variant detection report? Will I receive it at the same time as my standard Biobot report?
Within 3-5 days of receipt of your sample. The variant detection report will be communicated via email and separately from your standard Biobot report.
Are variant-related cases included in the incidence estimate on my Community+ report?
Yes. The assay we use to measure the level of SARS-CoV-2 should detect all currently known variants equally. That means that the incidence estimates found in our reports reflect the sum of cases for all variants circulating in your community.
Will I receive an email if variants are NOT detected in my sample?
Yes. Non-detects will also be communicated via email.
If I opt in, will all of my samples be tested for variants?
Yes. All samples that have a sufficient level of SARS-CoV-2 will be tested for variants.
What does “wild type” mean? How does this correspond to the SARS-CoV-2 concentration on my standard Community or Community+ reports?
Wild type refers to the genomic sequence of the original strain first identified in Wuhan, China. The assay we use to measure the level of SARS-CoV-2 should detect all currently known variants equally well. That means that the concentrations shown in our standard reports represent the sum of all variants circulating in your community, including the wild-type and any variants.
Will this information be shared with the Department of Public Health in my state
Variant detection information will not automatically be shared with Departments of Public Health. However, if participating customers choose to share their variant detection reports with their respective public health agencies and they would like more information, our team would be happy to connect with them about detection methods and results.
